Winter has arrived; it’s started snowing already in Philadelphia. And everybody’s getting ready for Christmas. From November 22, 2012 to January 6, 2013, Longwood Gardens will be celebrating the party bus holiday season in a glittery, sparkling display as they will have more than half a million twinkling lights and a spectacular fountain shows set up to create a brilliant wonderland everybody is sure to love.
Laid out over 1,077 acres (4.2km) of gardens, woodlands and meadows in Kennet Square, in the Brandywine Creek Valley, Longwood Gardens is one of the United States’ premier botanical gardens and is open all year round allowing visitors to enjoy both indoor and outdoor exotic plants and horticulture, events and performances, seasonal and themed attractions.
Get off the coach bus and stroll through the grounds and marvel nearly 40 miles of lights, and large, starry snowflakes and icicles sparkle throughout the Gardens, while the continuously performing Theatre Fountains highlight the gardens with a dancing display of all the colors of a Christmas rainbow.
The outdoor Christmas lights come on at 3:30 pm every day and actual bloom times of the different plants vary depending on weather and species.
Don't forget to take the rented passenger bus to the indoor horticultural highlights this season include Amaryllis, Begonias, Calla-lily (Zantedeschia), Coleus (Solenostemon), Cyclamen coum (Cyclamencoum), Euphorbias, Heaths (Erica), Heathers (Calluna), Lilies, Narcissus, Orchids, Poinsettias (Euphorbia pulcherrima), Primroses (Primula), Red Stem Dogwoods (Cornus stolonifera), Roses, and Winterberry Hollies (Ilex verticillata) whilst the Outdoor Highlights include Topiaries and Conifers.
Please do note that tickets are limited and must be bought before arrival and that timed and properly dated admission tickets are required as there is no admittance to the Gardens without a timed admission ticket if you are not a member.
